Our good night routine is evolving.
Brushing teeth, singing songs, reading books are mainstays.
We've added feeding the cats.
My 23 month old, with much concentration, carefully scoops dry cat food from a glass jar and fills the cat bowl.
My 4 year old, like an old pro, divides wet food between bowls and delivers the meals to Bella and Bean.
They get it. They understand that they are helping.
We've added a night light turtle that shines stars through it's shell to the ceiling. The boys insist I use a blue light setting:)
And we've added a thank you.
I don't know if it would be called a prayer or a mantra or ?
But every night I say,
"Thank you for our home that keeps us safe and warm
Thank you for the food that fills our bellies
Thank you for our healthy bodies
Thank you for our friends and family.."
And the youngest rattles off the names of each member of our family, and kind of gets lost in a little song of his own.
And the oldest may add, "Thank you for my fire engine pajamas" or "Thank you for my swim lessons". Once he repeated, through a fit of giggles, "Thanks for my poops"...
Our evening routine has a relaxing, reflective, playful rhythm:)
