Mother's Day

I couldn't think of anything that I wanted for Mother's Day.

But my boys want to give presents.

So I asked for flowers and a special breakfast.

Then we headed to the ice rink for the free skate.

My 4 year old is learning to skate on his own. He switches between leaning for support and skating independently. Once his skate touches the ice he skates at full force, maximum speed.

He falls a lot.

At any point, whether he is gliding or flailing, he is beaming.  For thirty minutes his expression is just pure joy.

My youngest, not even 2, watches my husband and son loop around. He stands at the opening to the rink and screams excitedly "Daddy! DAADDYYY"over and over until he is scooped up. Then, riding in his father's arms, his face shines like a star. The speed, the cold, such a thrill!

My husband is a proud, encouraging clown on the ice. He belly flops and makes ice angels. He ices my shoes and pants. He hip checks the boards. He shoots imaginary pucks. He laughs loudly and talks softly to my boys.

My happy family. Enjoying each other. My perfect gift.
