Sangeet

As part of the Hindu wedding celebrations, friends and family sing and dance for the bride and groom.

This strikes me as such a thoughtful loving gift, to commit to learning a song or dance and then to perform in front of hundred or so people. The gift of time.....

First the friends, some Indian and some not, smile and think their way through a dance.

Then the cousins, young and happy, dance playfully like children.

The best though, are the mothers and the aunties. They don't fuss with their saris, let them fall. They don't strike their poses, they nurture the movements along. They are present and beaming. And I just fall in love with them.

Most weddings I attend, the band alternates between "fast" and "slow" songs, and you can see a wave of generations move across the floor with the change in tempo.

This Sangeet was a celebration for all ages!
