Test of Time

Nothing to read, nothing to read.....moping around the library I scan the shelves.

A sign reads "Mira Costa High School Summer Reading".

What are kids reading these days?

I pick up A Tree Grows In Brooklyn

I was 14 when I devoured Francie's story for my freshman literature class.

Now, Thirty years later I just relish every word and connect to the 14 year old reader in me, re-interpreting scenes and re-connecting to the characters.

Such a pleasurable reading experience!

"From that time on, the world was hers for the reading. She would never be lonely again, never miss the lack of intimate friends. Books became her friends and there was one for every mood."
- Betty Smith, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Ch. 22
