On this trip we've kept life simple.
Instead of making plans, we linger indoors with family. So many generations together.
The hours pass, filled with laughing, teasing, and eating together.
Every few minutes my Mom offers me ice cream or cake.
She joins my sister and I as we dance and sing to "Mele Kalikimaka"with the baby.
Grandpa and the baby play an ever-evolving game of hi-five that involves funny sounds, hands, and feet.
We turned the living room into a private baby gym.
He delights in tossing stuffed animals and trucks down his slide.
And laughs when his Daddy attempts to slink through the toddler-size colorful fabric tunnel.
With so much adult attention, he's learned the power of "Please!", as well as,
"Grandpa" and "Liz".
Our trip ends in a few days.
These moments, now memories, will bring me smiles in the new year.
